Signal Records grew out of Blake Karlson's years in Chicago's hardcore and punk scenes, and from Chicago Research, the label he ran to spotlight local post-punk, electronic, and industrial music. In 2022 he opened the first shop on the Logan Square–Avondale border, filling the former Bric-A-Brac storefront with used vinyl aimed at anyone who walks out with something worth keeping.

A year later he opened the Wicker Park room at 1343 N. Ashland after taking on Dave's Records' stock—shelves heavy with jazz, soul, and diggable used pressings, still tied to the underground dance and experimental crate that made the first store matter. STTN's first night belongs here: a private showcase for human music and art, held where people already come to listen with their hands.

Sign the Commitment to Human Music before you arrive. All music played and all art shown is made entirely by people.
